Elle Kennedy is officially back in her Briar universe era with her new book, Love Song, and her upcoming TV series, Off Campus.
The New York Times bestselling author, 44, released her highly anticipated romance novel Love Song on Tuesday, March 17. The standalone follows the next generation of Kennedy’s beloved Off Campus characters as Wyatt Graham—the son of Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells from 2015’s The Deal—and Blake Logan—the daughter of John Logan and Grace Ivers from 2015’s The Mistake—fall for each other while spending the summer together at their families’ Tahoe lake house.
Amid the hype for Love Song, Kennedy is also preparing for the May premiere of Off Campus, the Prime Video adaptation of her viral hockey romance book series. With season 1 based on The Deal, Garrett (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah’s (Ella Bright) relationship will take center stage, with their friend group—including Logan (Antonio Cipriano), Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn), John Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks) and Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla)—along for the ride.
As Love Song hits shelves and fans count down the days to Off Campus, Kennedy speaks exclusively to Parade about the fated romance and return of readers’ favorite characters in her new book as well as the undeniable chemistry on the upcoming TV adaptation.

Love Song sees Garrett and Hannah’s son, Wyatt, and Logan and Grace’s daughter, Blake, falling for each other. Since readers already know and love their characters from the Off Campus books, what influence did the parents have on Wyatt and Blake’s personalities and dynamic when you were crafting them?
Wyatt and Blake have definitely taken on a few characteristics from their parents, but they are also uniquely themselves. Wyatt takes after Hannah more than Garrett, I’d say, with the way music is in his blood and bones. And Blake has a sweetness that really reminds me of Grace. And the two of them get to be who they are and explore their passions and relationships because Garrett, Hannah, Grace and Logan support them but allow them to make their own mistakes and learn from them.
Your fans have been dying to see a love story between members of Off Campus’ next generation. How did you decide Wyatt and Blake were the right pair to couple up?
I knew that we had to see Logan in Dad Mode off the bat (for some reason I had a feeling he would be the most ridiculous dad of the group), so I set up his daughter’s story arc in the Campus Diaries series. I was waiting for my gut to tell me who Blake’s hero would be, and after The Charlie Method, he revealed himself to me. Who better for Logan’s daughter than his No. 1 best friend’s son? They were always meant to be.

There are so many callbacks to the Off Campus and Briar U books that fans will love. How did you balance weaving in Easter eggs and ensuring Love Song stands on its own?
The Off Campus Easter eggs were some of my favorite moments! They’re also a reminder of how the friend group has grown over the years, but that closeness they shared at Briar U still remains. The foundation is still there, and you’ll see in Love Song how that has been passed down to the next-gen kids. For them, though, it’s different because instead of forming a bond in college, they’ve grown up together and that’s another layer of connection. Balancing the moments was a challenge, but honestly I just wrote what felt natural and hopefully new readers won’t be too overwhelmed by the callbacks!
You’ve already hinted that more next generation books are in the works, and there seem to be some clues in Love Song about who’s next. What can you tease about which characters might be getting their own books, and will there be another romantic pairing between members of the hockey kids friend group?
I drop clues in nearly every book about who is coming up next, and Love Song is no different… I’m keeping the details to myself on this one, but, well, this is a hot group of friends who have known each other all their lives, so we’ll just have to see who might have a connection!
The Off Campus TV series is set to be released in May, and the first season is based on The Deal. How involved were you in the adaptation process, and how faithful do you think the show is to the book?
Adapting a book for television always involves some creative changes, and that process was led by the team at Amazon. I can’t say much just yet, but from what I’ve seen, the core relationship dynamics of The Deal that fans love so much are still there—you’ll just have to wait until May to see how it all comes together!
What is the chemistry like among the cast, not only between the actors playing the main couples but also the friend group as a whole?
Oh my gosh, their chemistry is incredible. The couples, of course, have amazing chemistry, but I was so happy to see the way Hannah and Allie’s close friendship from the book resonates on the screen. Ella and Mika really captured how much these two girls love each other. Same for the boys! The actors brought the tight-knit hockey bromance to life.

Off Campus has already been renewed for season 2. Do you think the show will stick to the order of the books and feature Logan and Grace’s story in the second season?
Nice try! Unfortunately, I can’t say anything about season 2 yet. But hopefully the showrunners will release some details soon.
For fans of your books, what other hockey romances do you recommend?
Sarina Bowen’s hockey romances are always a great read. I would also recommend the Agitators series by Meghan Quinn and Kings of the Ice series by Kandi Steiner.
Outside of Love Song and the Off Campus TV series, what else do you have coming up that fans can look forward to?
I have a new YA thriller coming out in June that I’m so excited about. Thornbird is written under a new pen name, E. Kennedy, and the story follows the daughter of an infamous serial killer who races against the clock to solve the family's mysteries while keeping her identity hidden.
Love Song is available now wherever books are sold.
