Roads in northwest suburban Palatine were closed Tuesday and a death investigation was underway after a man was found shot and killed in a car that had crashed into multiple other vehicles, including a garbage dumpster.
The incident happened about 9:39 p.m. Monday, police said, with officers responding to the 1200 block of E. Prairie Brook Drive for reports of a car that had crashed into several parked vehicles. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man in the driver’s seat of black Audi with a gunshot wound.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
As part of the investigation, North Rand Road between Route 53 and Dundee Road is closed, with closures expected to remain in place through the Tuesday morning rush hour.
“Because it happened on a residential street, this entire area is blocked off,” NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said Tuesday morning, advising drivers to talk alternate routes.
The Palatine Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team are actively investigating the incident, police said, and there was no known threat to the public.
