Liam Mac Colla Flips Commitment From Williams College to Villanova for 2026

By Terin Frodyma on SwimSwam

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

After previously announcing his commitment to Williams College, 92nd St. Y’s Liam Mac Colla has flipped his commitment to Villanova University, and will join the Wildcats’ men’s program in the fall of 2026.

Excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Villanova University. Grateful to my coaches, teammates, and family for the support along the way. Go Cats!

Mac Colla recently competed at the 2026 January Jumpstart meet in Greensboro, NC, where he broke a Metro Swimming LSC Record in the 50 freestyle in 20.01. The New York City native’s time in that event would be the fastest in Villanova’s program history. Out-performing Zach Sutter‘s Big East Championship performance of 20.10. At that meet, he swam several lifetime bests, including the 100 free (44.47), 500 free (4:47.75), 50 back (23.77), 100 back (51.53), 50 breast (27.51), 50 fly (22.52), 100 fly (50.35), and 100 IM (53.12).

That 100 free time did not stand for long, as he would improve that time in March at the NYSPHSAA Boys Federation Championships, where the Stuyvesant High School senior would come away with a career best in the 100 free in 44.10, and claim the championship title in the event. He found similar success in the 50 free as well, winning the event in 20.27, missing his best time, but securing his first and only championship titles in each race.

Mac Colla has competed at several major USA Swimming meets, including December’s Winter Junior Championship East, where he swam in three freestyle events, finishing 26th in the 50 free (20.39), 32nd in the 100 free (45.08), and 48th in the 200 free (1:39.62). That 200 free still stands as his fastest ever performance.

    Best Times SCY:

    50 Free: 20.01 100 Free: 44.10 200 Free: 1:39.62 500 Free: 4:47.75 500 Free: 4:47.75 100 Fly: 50.35

Mac Colla joins a Villanova men’s program that recently finished 3rd at the 2025 Big East Championships with 610 points, 300.5 behind the winning Georgetown men with 910.5 points.

With that 50 free from January, he would have finished runner-up in the 50 free. He would have been the 5th Wildcat in the event’s finals, after securing two championship final swimmers and two in the consolation final. Mac Colla would have been 3rd in the 100 free and 10th in the 200 free, providing immediate scoring and potentially event-winning speed to this Villanova team.

In addition to his potentially program-history-altering 50 free, Mac Colla would be the fastest 100 freestyler in program history as well, passing Zach Sutter‘s 2026 program record of 44.23.

Sutter just wrapped up his sophomore season, meaning there are still a solid two years that the Wildcats and head coach Rick Simpson will have with both of these sprint aces up their sleeve.

Mac Colla joins Daxs Schoenbeck, Harrison Short, Jackson Cooper, Michael Yuen, and Carter Kobielski in the Wildcats’ 2026 recruiting class.
