The Colorado Avalanche are ready to move on from a complicated two-game road trip. After a dominating win over the Seattle Kraken, the Avs suffered a disappointing loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Head coach Jared Bednar said the team lacked energy, which was partly due to travel issues. The Avs spent several hours sitting on the plane in Seattle because of bad weather. The significant delay to Winnipeg affected their rest time.

The Avs return to Ball Arena to face the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night. Josh Manson said energy was good, and the team was ready for action after this morning’s skate.
“Anything’s better than sitting on that plane leaving Seattle. So I think we’re in a good place,” Manson said.
According to Parker Kelly, Sam Malinski sets a timer when he gets on the plane to when he gets off — it was approximately 10 hours.
“Sitting the whole time on the plane didn’t help us. We had some guys that had good jump and good pop, and then we were a little bit quiet with some of our other guys, some of our bigger minute guys,” Bednar said. “It happens, we can’t control that, right? So we take a tough loss there. And I’m not saying the results would have been different if our day was different the day before. It’s just something you got to work through. And we played with the right mentality.”
Avalanche missing key players
Gabriel Landeskog, Artturi Lehkonen, Ross Colton and Logan O’Connor are out with injuries. While O’Connor has yet to play this season, the absence of the other three forwards has been noticeable.

“Never fun to see guys go down. Kind of crazy, felt like it was just 123 in a row there with Gabe, Lehky, Colts. Obviously, big pieces of the top nine, and guys you move around to give us different looks offensively,” Brock Nelson said. “Reliable guys on both sides of the puck that can make an impact too. So Lehky’s a big part of special teams, power play and PK. And Gabe, obviously, the power play. So it’ll be nice to get those guys down the stretch and give us a little bit extra boost.”
Brett Kulak on facing another former team so quickly
Brett Kulak was traded from the Penguins in exchange for longtime Avalanche blueliner Sam Girard. He was only in Pittsburgh for 25 games after being traded from the Edmonton Oilers, with whom he had been for five seasons.
“It’s funny, I’m getting used to it, playing against my old teams. It’s just the way the schedule’s worked out and the teams I’ve been on,” Kulak said. “I was talking, I will play against the Oilers this season, by the end, four times. And I’ll play against the Penguins twice. Even that’s rare at times when you get traded from a team, usually it can take a full calendar year before you see your old teammates again. But yeah, I’ve been seeing them lots.”
