Metra advised commuters on its North Central Service to brace for “extensive” delays after a train struck a pedestrian on Chicago’s Northwest Side during the Monday afternoon rush hour.
Inbound and outbound trains were halted near River Grove after Train 105 hit a pedestrian near Hanson Park in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood at around 2 p.m., the transit agency said on its website. Antioch-bound Train 115 and Train 116, which was headed to Chicago, were canceled as a result.
Antioch-bound passengers were advised to take Train 117, which was scheduled to depart Chicago at 6 p.m.
Delays also extended to Metra’s Milwaukee District-West Line.
Inbound and outbound trains were initially halted at around 2:03 p.m., but had resumed by 2:44 p.m.
Metra’s MDW line said in a social media post to expect “extensive” delays.
Train 2219, which was scheduled to arrive Big Timber Road at 2:52 p.m., will operate on express service from Galewood to Big Timber Road amid extensive delays. Train 2221 will serve passengers at intermediate stops, Metra said.
The transit agency said it would provide updated information as soon as it becomes available.
