General Mills Is Bringing Back a Beloved Taco Brand

General Mills is finally bringing back La Tiara, a fan-favorite brand of Mexican-inspired pantry staples.

On Monday, the food and snack giant announced that it's caving to fans, not only reviving its La Tiara lineup of crispy corn taco shells and seasonings but making them more available than ever before.

"We've answered the call from an incredibly engaged group of local superfans," Meredith Nelson Uram, Mexican business unit director at General Mills, shared in a March 16 statement, citing the passion from thousands of customers as a huge driver for the decision.

"We’re not just bringing back a cherished product. We're reigniting a legacy, creating jobs, and—for the first time ever—making the crunch of a La Tiara taco shell available to families across the country," the exec added. "We’re thrilled for the next chapter of La Tiara."

The company, which has been recognized by fans in the Kansas City-area as producing some "amazing" corn taco shells and ready-to-use seasoning packets since its industry debut in 1960, quickly disappeared from shelves in early 2025 after the brand's parent company at the time, Gladstone Foods, amassed more than $5,000,000 in debt to creditors as reported in April 2025.

Following news it had stopped production, consumers demanded it return to shelves and rumors began swirling that the company would eventually come back, as buyers lined up with interest. Now, nearly one year later, Parade can confirm La Tiara will be back—and it's heading out to even more shelves now.

So if you haven't heard of the brand, it's probably because it originally had been a regional (Midwest) exclusive, but not anymore.

In its brand relaunch under General Mills, La Tiara's stone-ground masa yellow and white corn tortilla shells will expand nationwide. The company promises that it will offer the "same taste and texture" brand enthusiasts have always enjoyed, suggesting fans have no major recipe changes to be concerned about.

Additionally, La Tiara's original taco seasoning will also be returning to shelves across the country, along with the addition of three new spice packet flavors: Chorizo, Tinga, and Reduced Sodium.

La Tiara taco shells return to Walmart shelves this April.

"Can't wait to finally have tacos again - haven't made them since you left!" a third declared. "Thankful for everyone that came back to make this happen!!!"

    "Salivatinggggggggg," someone else joked.

Even Walmart got in on the fun, teasing in the comments: "I manifested this."
