Every once in a while I stumble upon a travel video on social media that gets my heart pumping. That happened this weekend when I stopped my doom scrolling to watch (and re-watch) a clip of a man effortlessly scaling the steps of Harihar Fort. However, it wasn't the way that he seemed to easily glide through the process, stopping periodically to take video of the absolutely awe-inspiring views he was getting of the Nashik district of India, that caught my attention.
Instead, it was the total lack of any type of guardrails or supports along the path, which at points seemed to suspend climbers over what appeared to be thousands of feet of open space. And while I'm not sure I'll be signing up to take this climb anytime soon, I think you'll agree that there's a reason why so many people make the death defying trek each year.

Those wishing to make the trek up to Harihar Fort can do so on their own or with a guide. However, the climb itself is when some folks may want to have a pro along for the ride, especially for those who aren't used to making these types of free climbs on their own.
No matter whether you plan to spring for a guide or face the cliff on your own, you'll want to make sure you're coming prepared. According to the blog, that means packing about a gallon of water for the climb, wearing high-quality shoes with good grips, and keeping any food hidden away from the curious monkeys you may encounter on your trip.
