The 98th Academy Awards just wrapped on Sunday, March 15, and while the night delivered plenty of standout moments (hello, Michael B. Jordan’s Best Actor win for Sinners), one particular exchange between Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans has taken over social media in record time.
For those who missed it, the longtime Marvel co-stars launched into a playful bit about anniversary gifts, with Downey, 60, suddenly pulling a sparkly thong out of his jacket as a “present” for Evans, 44.

That’s when things took a turn.
“I got you the official Tanning Chatum thong from Magic Mike,” Downey said, accidentally mangling Channing Tatum’s name. “It’s Sequined. It’s got like a mirrorball effect. Light usage.”
Evans, clearly trying not to lose it on live television, responded with a perfectly timed, “I have no words.”
The camera then panned to Tatum, 45, in the audience, who leaned into the moment without missing a beat. "Hey, I'm gonna need that back though! I gotta work later bro," he shouted, sending the theater into a fresh wave of laughter.

The 2026 Oscars were hosted by Conan O’Brien, who returned to emcee the show for a second time. His opening monologue leaned into Hollywood’s current anxieties around artificial intelligence and streaming, joking that he might be “the last human host of the Academy Awards.”
