The cast of Beyond the Gates recently took to social media to participate in a playful ‘pass the phone’ challenge, poking fun at their characters’ soapy storylines and personalities.
Lami who plays Izaiah Hawthorne on the series, kicked off the challenge. “I’m passing the phone to somebody who thinks he can put a cap on and nobody in Fairmont Crest is going to recognize him.”
Lami was jokingly referring to his on-screen brother Jacob Hawthorne, played by Jibre Hordges, whose character is currently working undercover to uncover the identity of the mysterious ‘Impaler.’ Fans have frequently joked online about how unconvincing Jacob’s undercover disguise appears in the storyline.
Hordges then continued the chain, saying he was passing the phone to “someone who wants to be a detective so bad and will never let me do my job.”
The joke referenced Jacob’s sister-in-law Kat Richardson, played by Colby Nixon, who spent much of Season 1 embarking on Nancy Drew-style investigations while trying to uncover what Leslie Thomas, played Trisha Mann-Grant, did to Laura Peterson (Destiny Love).
Nixon then joked, “I’m passing the phone to someone in her hoe phase unfortunately.”
The comment referenced her on-screen mother Nicole Richardson Dupree, portrayed by Daphnée Duplaix. In recent episodes, Nicole has been exploring life as a newly single woman and has sparked romantic tension with Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughan) and Dr. Carlton.
Duplaix continued the challenge, saying, “I’m passing the phone to somebody when he puts his glasses on he thinks he’s Clark Kent.”
The line was directed at Bradley “Smitty” Smith, played by Mike Manning, who has been helping Jacob with his investigation.
Maning played along, joking, “I’m passing the phone to someone you might want to hide your boyfriend from.”
The phone then went to Ambyr Michelle, who plays Eva Thomas, a character whose early storyline saw her sleep with her sister Kat’s boyfriend.
Michelle added, “I’m passing the phone to somebody who is liable to shoot up your wedding.”
That jab prompted Karla Mosley, whose Character Dani famously disrupted her ex-husbands wedding early in the series to respond, “I’m passing the phone to someone who can always hook me up with a date after her boyfriend helps me bury the bodies.”
Lauren Buglioli who plays Vanessa McBride, and is currently dating Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) answered and said, “I’m passing the phone to a reformed playboy”
Sean Freeman who plays Andre Richardson, the reformed playboy who is married to Dani said, “I’m passing the phone to someone who’s always giving someone nicknames like Teddy”
Trisha Mann Grant, who plays Leslie said, “I’m passing the phone to somebody who needs to come to his sense and know that he has a good thing.”
Keith D. Robinson, who plays Ted Richardson, Leslie’s ex-side piece, shared, “I’m passing it to someone who needs to stop fooling around with my nephew’s wife.”
Timon picked up the phone and shared, “I’m passing the phone to someone who is like the father I never had.”
Clifton Davis, who plays Vernon Dupree shared, “I’m passing the phone to the sunshine of my life, the reason I’ll always stay around. My sun, my moon, and stars.”
Tamara Tunie who plays matriarch, Anita Dupree finished the video out, sharing, “And I’m passing this on to everyone who loves Beyond the Gates. Because we love y’all.”
She concluded the video sharing, “And it’s back to work so pass on the love to everybody. Pass on the love.”
