An Indiana Air Force Airman was among the six killed when their military refueling plane crashed in Iraq earlier this week, the Department of Defense announced Saturday.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced Captain Seth R. Koval, 38, of Mooresville, Indiana was one the six Airmen killed the crash in western Iraq on March 12 amid Iran war operations.
U.S. Central Command said in social media post around 9 a.m. on Friday that all six crew members of the KC-135 plane that went down at approximately 1 p.m. CT Thursday were confirmed deceased.
“The aircraft was lost while flying over friendly airspace March 12 during Operation Epic Fury,” CENTCOM said in the post. “The circumstances of the incident are under investigation. However, the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.”
Captain Koval was assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Columbus, Ohio with two of the other victims.
The other Airmen killed were identified as:
