First Alert Weather: Green on the Threat Tracker for Saturday night; Snow moves in Sunday morning

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Wind gusts will continue to decrease as we head into the rest of Saturday evening with overnight sustained winds staying between 5 to 10 mph out of the south/southeast. It will stay fairly quiet overnight Saturday with partly cloudy skies and low temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s. No snow is expected this evening.

Early Sunday morning, snow showers will start to move in ahead of a warm front. We will start Sunday in the low 30s with snow but will quickly change over to partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 50s by the evening. However, gusty winds will make feel-like temperatures stay in the 40s, so if you are headed out for a walk be sure to wear a jacket.

As of right now, we remain green on the Threat Tracker as winds are expected to stay between 45-50 mph for most through Sunday evening. However, folks in the northern Finger Lakes and west toward the Genesee and Wyoming County could see higher gusts over 50 mph. The weather team will reassess wind gust potential early Sunday morning, so stay tuned for any changes to the Threat Tracker for later Sunday.

Scattered light rain showers will move in Sunday night and temperatures will stay in the low 40s. Keep in mind – winds will remain gusty through Sunday evening and into Monday, so make sure any garbage cans are secured! Monday morning will start very mild with temperatures in the low 60s. This does not last long as a strong cold front moves in later Monday morning bringing rain showers and thunder in the middle of the day. This rain will transition to snow in the later afternoon with temperatures coming down into the low 30s by the evening.

A quick look at the rest of the coming week: Lake snow will return Monday night into Tuesday. Wind gusts should subside headed into Wednesday, but lake flakes will stick around. Thursday and Friday bring back seasonable temperatures in the mid 40s. However, a stationary front sets up into the weekend which will bring a variety of precipitation types to Western New York including rain, a wintry mix, and some snow heading into the start of the next week.
