We look ahead to Saturday’s clash at Stamford Bridge with our Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction and preview. After the Blues and Magpies both suffered late setbacks in the Champions League, can either side keep pace in the Premier League’s European fight?
Chelsea vs Newcastle: The Key Stats
The Opta supercomputer is backing Chelsea to claim all three points at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues winning 54.6% of the pre-match simulations ahead of Saturday’s meeting. Chelsea have won 11 of their last 12 Premier League home games against Newcastle and drawn the other, with their last loss coming back in May 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo. Newcastle have won 49 Premier League away games against London sides, and could become just the fourth non-London team to reach 50 victories in the capital, after Manchester United (81), Liverpool (79) and Manchester City (64).In a match sandwiched between two crucial Champions League round-of-16 ties for both clubs, Chelsea and Newcastle United meet at Stamford Bridge at a similarly critical point in their Premier League campaigns.
Chelsea’s league form has been on the up since Liam Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca in January, but the Blues suffered their first heavy loss under the 41-year-old with a 5–2 defeat to PSG in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.
Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernández’s equalisers either side of half-time in Paris seemed to have set up a level second leg, but a goal from Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s late double ensured that Chelsea will have a mountain to climb at Stamford Bridge next week.

15 hours ago Ali TweedaleFirst up for Rosenior’s side, however, is the visit of Newcastle to west London, with Chelsea unbeaten at home in the league since late December, thumping Aston Villa 4–1 in their last Premier League match.
Douglas Luiz’s second-minute opener at Villa Park only proved to be a minor setback for Chelsea, with João Pedro equalising 10 minutes before the break and putting his side in front six minutes into first-half injury time.
Cole Palmer continued Chelsea’s comeback to make it 3–1 just 10 minutes after the restart, and João Pedro’s hat-trick was complete within another nine minutes as the visitors moved to within three points of fourth-placed Villa.
Having also set up Palmer for Chelsea’s third, João Pedro became the first player to be directly involved in four goals in a single Premier League game this season, as well as the eighth Brazilian to score a hat-trick in the competition.

2 days ago Matt FurnissFurthermore, since the beginning of February, Palmer and Pedro have scored the joint-most goals in the competition, with five each. Palmer’s strike was his first ever non-penalty goal against a side in the top five of the Premier League table.
While Chelsea are now up to fifth and firmly in the hunt for a Champions League spot, Newcastle risk dropping out of the European conversation altogether, with Eddie Howe’s side sat a lowly twelfth, nine points behind sixth-placed Liverpool.
An injury-time penalty from Lamine Yamal prevented Newcastle from taking a 1–0 lead into the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, with Barcelona snatching a draw at the death.
Harvey Barnes had put Newcastle ahead in the 86th minute with his sixth goal of the hosts’ Champions League campaign, and his 14th across all competitions this season.
In fact, teammate Anthony Gordon is the only Englishman to score more goals than Barnes for a Premier League team in all competitions this term, with 15.
Late drama also headlined Newcastle’s last Premier League outing, albeit the Magpies came out on the right side of that occasion by beating Manchester United 2–1 at St. James’ Park.
Gordon had scored from the spot just moments after Jacob Ramsey was shown a second yellow card for simulation in first-half stoppage time, only for Casemiro to equalise for the visitors, all before the break.
However, Newcastle found an unlikely hero in the form of William Osula, who came off the bench to score a late winner, curling home an individual goal of the highest quality to spark absolute pandemonium.
Osula’s three Premier League goals have all come from the bench, while Howe’s side have now scored three 90th-minute winners in the Premier League this season, also beating Fulham in October and Leeds in January.
Newcastle will take further stock from the fact that they’ve avoided defeat in five of their last seven league games against Chelsea, more than they’d managed across the previous 15 meetings.
However, after Yamal’s spot-kick denied them a vital European victory in midweek, Newcastle will be wary that Chelsea have scored more penalty goals than any other team in the Premier League this term, with seven.
Chelsea’s prospects of bouncing back from that 5–2 defeat in Paris will be boosted by the potential return of Jamie Gittens.
As is the case with Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, Newcastle remain without Emil Krafth, and this match will also come too early for Bruno Guimarães, Fabian Schär and Lewis Miley, with only the latter likely to return this month.
Against Manchester United, Ramsey became the first Premier League player to be shown a second yellow card for simulation since Yves Bissouma in October 2023.
However, Ramsey will be back for this match after serving his ban for his red card against United in Newcastle’s FA Cup defeat to Man City last weekend.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Head-to-Head
The reverse fixture between these two sides took place in December 2025, with the spoils shared at St. James’ Park following a second-half comeback from the visitors.
Nick Woltemade’s brace inside 20 minutes quickly put Newcastle into a 2–0 lead, but Reece James responded straight after half-time and João Pedro popped up 15 minutes later to level things.
Though Newcastle sit on the cusp of a 50th Premier League victory in London, the Magpies have lost more away games in the capital than any other club, with 94 since their debut in the competition back in 1993.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Prediction
Chelsea’s 2–1 defeat to Arsenal on 1 March is their only league defeat of Rosenior’s tenure, and his solid home record makes them the favourites according to Opta’s supercomputer.
Across 10,000 pre-match simulations, Chelsea were victorious in 54.6% of the outcomes, with even a draw seen as more likely than a win for the visitors.
Newcastle are given a mere 22.1% chance of victory ahead of Saturday’s clash, while there’s a 23.4% likelihood of the points being shared at Stamford Bridge.
