Kyler Murray, come on down! You are the next quarterback vying to be saved by the Kevin O’Connell signal-caller repair program.
Business is picking up in the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback room.
Months after the conclusion of a disappointing season with JJ McCarthy at quarterback, the Vikings are bringing in reinforcements at the position with the signing of Kyler Murray, who essentially confirms the news with his social media activity:

— Kyler Murray (@K1) March 12, 2026As a Bears fan, this is mildly annoying news. Even though Kyler Murray didn’t set the world on fire while with the Arizona Cardinals, he played well enough (despite his surroundings) to make me think that he could help a Minnesota Vikings team that was clearly held back by poor quarterback play in 2025.
Kyler Murray is set to join the Minnesota Vikings
Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, was officially let go by the Arizona Cardinals at the start of the new league year on Wednesday. The decision comes on the heels of the Cardinals hiring a new coach (former Rams Offensive Coordinator Mike LaFleur) and taking the team in a new direction as it undergoes yet another rebuild.
All things considered, Kyler Murray was pretty successful during his time in Arizona. He made it to the Pro Bowl twice (2020, 2021) and even led the team to a playoff appearance. Murray finishes his 87-game stint with the Cardinals, having thrown for 20,460 yards and 121 touchdowns. Those aren’t bad numbers when you consider how crummy things have been for the Cards elsewhere throughout his seven-year tenure with the team.
Kyler Murray will look to recreate the magic of his early years in Arizona out in Minnesota. Given what Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has provided for quarterbacks from a coaching standpoint, you can understand why Murray is taking his talents to the Land of a Thousand Lakes. Minnesota has stud pass-catchers such as Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson, a decent running game, and a defense coached by Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores. From afar, there is a lot to like about the Vikings. And to sweeten the pot, the quarterback position is wiiiiiide open.

Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-Imagn ImagesSave for that Week 1 win against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, the J.J. McCarthy experience was ugly to watch. The University of Michigan product threw more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (11) and finished the year with a less-than-inspiring 72.6 passer rating. Out in Minnesota, the Vikings will surely frame the Kyler Murray signing as bringing in competition for McCarthy, whom the team used the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select. But the reality is that McCarthy is one slip up from being stapled to the bench.
It is just a one-year deal for Murray, who could parlay his time with the Vikings with a bigger contract next offseason if he plays his cards right. Hey, if Sam Darnold can do it, why can’t Kyler?
