ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some SUNY community colleges will expand child care services to better align with the schedules of student parents.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that five community colleges will extend their hours to include nights and weekends, some in partnership with local community child care providers.
In the Rochester area, Monroe Community College (MCC) will add 16 more hours during evenings, and the campus will create more slots for infants and toddlers. Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) will extend its evening hours up to 9 p.m. two days a week.
MCC last extended its child care service hours to include evenings in February. The college was awarded funding over two years to implement child care services during evenings and weekends.
Hochul said the extended hours will support adult learners apart of the SUNY Reconnect initiative. This program offers free tuition, fees, books, and supplies for adults 25-55 who don’t already have a college degree and want to get an associate degree in a high-demand field.
“We are investing in the futures of our adult learners and student parents to ensure they can pursue and achieve their dreams,” said Hochul in a press release.
