NEWARK, N.Y. — A 20-year-old man has been arrested after State Police say he sent sexually explicit things to a minor online.
Brayden Bergfjord, of Ontario, was arrested and taken into custody on Jan. 27.
State Police say the investigation started in September 2025, when Newark Police got information that an adult man was inappropriately talking with a 12-year-old girl from Ottawa, Canada, online.
Investigators say they learned Bergfjord met the victim through the online gaming platform Roblox. They say Bergfjord sent sexually explicit images and videos of himself to the victim, and tried to get the victim to do the same.
Bergfjord is charged with the following:
Disseminating indecent material to a minor Criminal solicitation An act in a manner injurious to a child less than 17Investigators also say they found child sex abuse material on Bergfjord’s phone. As a result, he was arrested again and faced with an additional charge.
Bergfjord was processed by State Police, issued an appearance ticket on the additional charges, and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Newark Court later this month.

In September 2025, News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke reported that State Police have teams that track down those who target children.

Online gaming safety
News10NBC’s Erin Mahon also previously spoke with Trooper Jason Klewicki about the dangers of online gaming. Klewicki emphasized the importance of parents familiarizing themselves with the platforms their children use.
He also advised parents to disable chat features on gaming platforms and consider creating their own accounts to play alongside their children.
