Mickey Rourke is speaking out after losing his Los Angeles apartment in a legal battle with his landlord, claiming serious maintenance problems—including a rodent infestation—made the living conditions unbearable.
The 73-year-old actor and boxing legend recently had a judge rule in favor of his landlord, ordering that he vacate the property after falling behind on rent. According to court filings, Rourke owed roughly $60,000 before the dispute reached a breaking point.
But the actor said there’s more to the story. Rourke told TMZ on Wednesday, March 11 that his decision to stop paying rent was tied directly to ongoing problems inside the apartment that he claims were never properly fixed. "The reason I stopped paying rent was because the living conditions in the apartment had become unacceptable," he said, explaining that he repeatedly raised concerns with management.
Among the most troubling issues, Rourke says, was a persistent rodent problem that never seemed to go away. "There were ongoing rodent issues that required multiple visits but were never fully resolved, and the bathroom and plumbing frequently did not work," he added to the outlet. According to the actor, requests for repairs were made several times, but he says the problems continued and "basic maintenance was never properly handled."
Rourke says refusing to pay rent wasn’t something he took lightly. "Withholding rent was not a decision I made lightly. I simply could not continue paying for an apartment that was in such poor condition after so many attempts to have these issues corrected."

Court records obtained by TMZ indicate that the judge ultimately sided with the landlord and ordered Rourke to vacate the property.
The housing drama surrounding the veteran star has been ongoing for months. Earlier this year, Rourke was reportedly staying in a West Hollywood hotel with his dog after leaving the apartment. Around the same time, a GoFundMe campaign surfaced online claiming to raise money to help him avoid eviction—something the actor quickly distanced himself from.
“I’d rather stick a gun up my a** and pull the trigger,” the Sin City actor said in a previous Instagram video. His manager, however, lamented that Rourke knew about the campaign and approved it. He vowed that the money would be returned to the original donors.
