ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We had another record fall on Tuesday. Temperatures hit 69°, which beat the old record high for the date of 68°. We’ll see one more mild day on Wednesday before some big changes. A few showers will continue Tuesday night, with a better chance of thunder into Wednesday morning. Some heavier rain may also fall Wednesday morning. That’ll be our first round of rain and thunder, with a second round into the afternoon and evening ahead of and along a cold front. This is where we may see a better chance of a gusty thunderstorm, especially south of Rochester. While our severe threat is low, some severe storms may fire just to our south into Pennsylvania. We’ll monitor the severe threat on Wednesday, but at this point we’re remaining “Green” on the Threat Tracker.
Meanwhile, we’ll see heavy rain off and on Wednesday. Some areas may pick up a half inch to an inch of rain, especially where we see several rounds of convection. Temperatures on Wednesday should peak in the 60s for one more day, before falling back drastically by Thursday morning.
Thursday will feature some light flurries and lake snow showers, along with a gusty wind and temperatures in the mid 30s. Another storm system will be moving in on Friday, bringing a busy wind out of the southwest, and another chance for some snow showers. Temperatures are marginal for snow, so expect little to no accumulation out of this, but it’ll pull down another batch of colder air to start the weekend. That means temperatures in the 30s and flurries over to some sun for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. We’ve seen worse! We’ve also seen much warmer.
Our active weather pattern continues into the 2nd half of the weekend and into next week. Another storm system will likely bring more wet snow on Sunday. We may see an inch or two of snow, but temperatures look like they’ll climb fairly quickly, melting that snow. But this will be followed by another punch of much colder air to kick off the first half of next week.
