Rochester Jazz Fest lineup: Over 300 shows this year, Trombone Shorty to return for free show

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The full lineup for the 23rd annual Rochester International Jazz Festival has been revealed. It includes over 300 shows, including the return of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue for a free concert.

The festival kicks off on Friday, June 19, and runs through Saturday, June 27, bringing artists from across the U.S. and at least eight other countries to Rochester. The festival will feature over 100 free shows, including the return of the free headliner series at Parcel 5 and East & Chestnut Stage. There will also be free shows at the Jazz Street Stage on Gibbs Street, the Wegmans Pavilion, and more. Altogether, the jazz festival has 19 venues. You can see the full lineup here.

    Free headliner series

    There are five free headliners, four at Parcel 5 and one at the East & Chestnut Stage. All free headliners start at 9 p.m., and the opening act starts at 7 p.m.

    Saturday, June 20: Robert Cray, a five-time Grammy winner, will perform at the East & Chestnut Stage. His music fuses soul, R&B, gospel, blues, and rock. Nikki Hill will open the show.

    Wednesday, June 24: The Kings of Latin Jazz, a group featuring Tito Puente Jr. and Nestor Torres, will perform at Parcel 5. Grupo Ife will open the show.

    Thursday, June 25: Galactic, a cornerstone of New Orleans’ music landscape, will perform at Parcel 5. Robin McKelle & The Flytones – Soul Stax Sessions will open the show.

    Friday, June 26: Ana Popović, an award-winning guitarist who incorporates electric funk, jazz, and blues, will perform at Parcel 5. Don Mancuso & D Drive will open the show.

    Saturday, June 27: Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will return to Rochester to close out the jazz festival once again at Parcel 5. This will mark his 10th performance at the festival. Cinnamon Jones will open the show.

    Ticketed headliners

    Some legendary musicians are coming to Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre during the jazz festival. All ticketed headliners start at 8 p.m.

    Thursday, June 25: Chris Botti, the Grammy-winning trumpeter who has collaborated with all-star artists including Sting, Paul Simon, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, and Tony Bennett.

    Friday, June 26: Gladys Knight, the iconic soul and R&B artist known for her songs “Midnight Train to Georgia”, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, and more.

    Saturday, June 27: The Count Basie Orchestra, the 19-time Grammy-winning group that carries on the legacy of pianist and bandleader William James “Count” Basie.
