ICC T20 World Cup-winning Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that he had approached former World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni for advice ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup, and it was his invaluable advice that helped him lead his side with sheer confidence and determination.
India are currently at the top of the world after having won back-to-back ICC T20 World Cup trophies in 2024 and 2026. The wins not only reflected on India's terrific run in the shortest format of the game, but also made them the most recent invincible force in ICC tournaments ever since the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
India thrashed New Zealand by a huge margin of 96 runs in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and booked its place among the elite captains from the nation to have won a World Cup. India are now also the most successful team in T20 World Cups with three titles.
The title-winning skipper for India, Suryakumar Yadav, revealed that he had turned to former Indian skipper MS Dhoni for advice before the start of the 2026 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.
“I had met him (MS Dhoni) before the tournament, and he told me how to approach an ICC tournament. He told me that we have a good team, we just have to be courageous, and we will definitely win. His reaction after the win was amazing,” said the captain.
MS Dhoni was the first Indian skipper to have won the ICC T20 World Cup back in the inaugural season of 2007. He is often referred to as the greatest white-ball skipper, and it seems Surya had learned it from the institution himself.
