Nancy Guthrie Update: Former FBI Agent Says Blood Clue Suggests She Didn’t Leave on Her Own

Retired FBI special agent Maureen O'Connell said droplets of blood found on Nancy Guthrie’s front stoop could indicate that the 84-year-old did not leave her home on her own. While chatting with NewsNation's Brian Entin, O'Connell pointed out that there was no break in the blood trail for footprints, suggesting Guthrie may have been taken from the residence rather than walking out on her own, a detail that could be significant in the ongoing investigation.

"I doubt that she walked out because there were no voids," O'Connell said of the blood spatter. "So, let's say the pattern of the blood is concentrated here, but the sphere is this big, it's round, you would have a void here from one foot or from another foot or from something. There don't appear to be any voids."

The blood on Guthrie's front stoop appears in drops rather than streaks or smudges and they are mostly in one confined area without evidence of a break or a "void" as O'Connell explains.

"So, for me, in my mind, she's wrapped up in something and they're carrying her out," O'Connell continued.

Retired FBI agent Jim Clemente disagreed with O'Connell's theory to an extent, mainly on the part about Guthrie potentially being wrapped up before being taken out of her home. He said the droplets suggest the blood dripped "straight down" and "wasn't moving at speed," adding that had Guthrie been wrapped up, "she wasn't wrapped up well."

Clemente also said that if Guthrie tried to fight the perp, something could have happened that caused an injury and made her bleed.

Although the Pima County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that the blood on the stoop belonged to Guthrie, there haven't been any additional details about that blood spatter. It's also unknown if there was any blood inside the home and, if so, what it may have looked like.
