Mike Evans to 49ers? Kenneth Walker to Chiefs? NFL free agency kicks off with a bang

Day 1 of the NFL’s negotiating period, also known as legal tampering, kicked off Monday and did not disappoint with plenty of reported free agency moves across the league.

The Arizona Cardinals got in on the action with the addition of running back Tyler Allgeier on a two-year deal worth $12.25 million. They also agreed to terms on a one-year contract with quarterback Gardner Minshew. The veteran is expected to back up Jacoby Brissett in 2026.

Then came a flurry of additions later in the day, with wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, guard Isaac Seumalo, L.J. Collier and Roy Lopez agreeing to deals.

A look at some of the other notable moves across the NFL on Monday and how they impact the Cardinals.

The defending Super Bowl champions saw some big departures Monday with running back and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III agreeing to terms on a three-year, $45 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, and safety Coby Bryant, who was a huge piece to the Seahawks’ defense, agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on a three-year, $40 million deal.

On top of his 1,027 yards and five touchdowns across 17 games played last year, Walker added another 313 yards and four scores on 65 carries in three playoff games.

Most of that yardage (135) came in Seattle’s win over New England in Super Bowl LX on 27 attempts.

Bryant started 15 games for one of the NFL’s top-rated defenses. He racked up 66 tackles, four interceptions, seven passes defensed and a forced fumble during that span.

He added 10 tackles and two passes defensed in three playoff games.

Seahawks keeping Rashid Shaheed in town

It wasn’t all bad for Seattle on Monday, as the franchise re-upped with wide receiver and return man Rashid Shaheed on a reported three-year deal worth $51 million, including $34.7 million guaranteed.

Shaheed is a big play waiting to happen in the return game, as seen by his three touchdown returns across the regular season and playoffs with Seattle last year.

Another weapon for Brock Purdy, 49ers

Mike Evans is headed to the San Francisco 49ers on a three-year deal worth a reported $60.4 million.

He now joins a formidable offense that already included Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.

Evans posted 11-straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2014-24.

He missed out on extending the streak to 12 years due to injury last year, finishing with 30 catches for 368 yards and three scores.

    Malik Willis heads to Miami

The biggest free-agent quarterback domino fell Monday with Willis’ reported deal with the Miami Dolphins.

The contract spans three years and is worth $67.5 million with $45 million guaranteed.

Willis was largely linked to the Dolphins and Cardinals this offseason as a potential option for the franchises following their expected releases of Tua Tagovailoa and Kyler Murray, respectively.

The veteran chose the Dolphins, while the Cardinals opted for Minshew on a one-year deal.

    Rams beef up the secondary

Los Angeles was already in the acquisition phase before Monday rolled around with their trade and later extension of cornerback Trent McDuffie from Kansas City.

Then came the legal tampering window, where LA reportedly agreed to terms with cornerback Jaylen Watson on a three-year deal worth $51 million with $34 million guaranteed.

One less landing spot for Kyler Murray

Tagovailoa is reportedly planning to sign a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons, who has Michael Penix Jr. on the mend from a torn ACL, were among the potential suitors for Murray’s services following his release.

With Atlanta now off the board, all eyes turn to the Minnesota Vikings as the likely landing spot for Murray.

    Jalen Thompson off to Dallas

Monday’s window opening wasn’t without a key Cardinals departure in safety Jalen Thompson.

Expected to sign elsewhere this offseason, Thompson heads to the Dallas Cowboys on a reported three-year deal worth up to $36 million.

Thompson has been a fixture within Arizona’s secondary since he came to town as a 2019 supplemental draft pick.

He went on to play 99 games (87 starts) for the Cardinals in his seven years in Arizona.
