Today show co-host Craig Melvin has a new project in the works, and fans cannot wait to see more. On March 9, Today announced the news and fans will not have to wait long to check it out. A new podcast titled Glass Half Full will feature Melvin and be available both on YouTube and wherever listeners prefer to listen to their podcasts.
The announcement came via the Today Instagram page. It teases, "On Glass Half Full, TODAY's Craig Melvin sets out to answer one burning question: What shapes people?"
The video included in the Instagram post gave viewers snippets of episodes that Melvin has already recorded. The teaser for the show notes, "Each week, Craig sits down with a celebrity, athlete, comedian or just plain fascinating person for intimate conversations that feel like catching up with an old friend."
Viewers can expect "warmth, humor, and curiosity" as Melvin "explores how setbacks become breaththroughs."
Guests who have been teased for upcoming episodes of Melvin's Glass Half Full include NBA legends Shaquille O'Neal and Carmelo Anthony, as well as basketball coach and Hall of Famer Dawn Staley. Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes will be sitting down with Melvin, as will actress Regina Hall.
Others taking a seat with the Today co-host for the new project include author and journalist Malcolm Gladwell, comedian and correspondent Roy Wood Jr., comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan, and sports agent Rich Paul.
As for the concept, Melvin explains in the teaser for the show that he's always been fascinated by what shapes people. He added that he's always eager to learn from people about "The moments that really change everything."
Melvin adds, "Each week, I start with a very simple question. 'Do you consider yourself a glass half full or a glass half empty kinda guy?'"
He invites people to join him to see conversations that might change the way they look at their own life story.
In an initial announcement about the project that dropped on January 27, Today teased that Melvin would be recording the podcast from the basement bar in his home.
The podcast was initially slated to debut on February 3. Although Today did not explicitly explain the apparent delay in the podcast release, it may well have been due to the February 1 disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie.
Early responses from Today viewers and Melvin's fans suggest they'll be eager to check out the new podcast.
One Instagram user commented, "I love it!!! I cannot wait. This is awesome. This will be real, raw conversation. That's what you always bring to the table. I'm here for it. Congrats."
Another fan praised, "I always love your vibe! From straight up Today Show News, The Third Hour and now your new podcast! You nail it every time!"
The reaction on Facebook was similar, with one fan writing, "I love this for you!!! I can't wait to listen."
The first podcast episode will be released on March 10, and will be available via the usual podcast options as well as on YouTube.
