I heard a loud slap: Abdul Razaq reveals shocking fight incident involving Mohammad Amir

Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq recently made a major revelation about a confrontation between former captain Shahid Afridi and young pacer Mohammad Amir after they faced serious allegations of spot-fixing during a Test match against England at Lord's in 2010.

Mohammad Amir, the young sensation of Pakistan, rose to prominence for the first time back in the late 2000s. He was seen as a future pace bowling expert for Pakistan alongside Mohammad Asif, the other speedster. They were then jointly involved in a massive scandal that ruined their careers.

Mohammad Amir has now retired from the game and has turned into a cricket analyst in Pakistan. Abdur Razzaq, his former teammate and legendary all-rounder from Pakistan, shared a horrible incident from the past that exposes one of the darkest phases of his life.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has revealed that former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi had slapped 18-year-old Mohammad Amir after learning about his spot-fixing scandal back in 2010.

Pakistani pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif had delivered no-balls in a Test match against England at Lord's at certain specific moments. This was prearranged by the bookmakers and orchestrated by the then captain, Salman Butt.

The news was then exposed by the News of the World through a sting operation. It led to huge consequences, and they were sentenced to prison for all three players who were involved in the act.

Abdul Razzaq reveals Shahid Afridi's massive confrontation with Mohammad Amir

Abdul Razzaq revealed that he had a friend in London who repaired phones, which brought the incident to his notice. He informed that when Mazhar Majeed's phone was repaired, and it started working, he found many such messages involving him and the three players.

“What happened was that Mazhar Majeed came to my friend and asked him to repair one of his phones. When my friend managed to get the phone working late at night, he found several messages between Mazhar and the three players detailing plans to spot-fix in the match," Razzaq said on a TV Show, as quoted by PTI.

He then confirmed that he was the one to inform him about the messages, and he forwarded the information to the then skipper, Shahid Afridi.

“Afridi called Amir, who was just 18 then, to his room and asked me to wait outside. I could hear Afridi getting angry and asking him to tell the truth. When he kept denying it, I heard a loud slap and rushed inside," Razzaq recalled.

He also revealed that the young Amir had then broken down in tears and admitted to the controversy, which was later considered by the ICC.

PCB's inefficiency escalated the match-fixing situation

Razzaq revealed that the scandal might not have escalated this far if the Pakistan Cricket Board and the team management had acted in a better fashion.

“Some senior players advised the team manager to fine the three players and send them home on disciplinary grounds before the ICC got involved," he said. Butt and Asif never played for Pakistan; however, Mohammad Amir returned to international cricket in 2016, before he retired in 2024.
