ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A senior at Churchville-Chili High School is being honored for helping a student who passed out on the way to the bathroom.
Kaitlyn Pozzuolo is one of the recipients of the Do the Right Thing award. Kaitlyn was walking in the hall when she saw the student passed out from hitting their head and face. Kaitlyn immediately jumped in, calling for her cousin to get help while she stayed with the student to keep them calm.
“It was a freak accident, you know. I was in the right place at the right time, and I was just worried about making sure that she didn’t re-injure herself and that she wasn’t scared, because it’s not something that you want to happen to you,” Kaitlyn said.
Helping people in need is nothing new to Kaitlyn. She’s a children’s swim instructor and a lifeguard.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here.
