India cricket team created history on Sunday by becoming the only side to capture two consecutive T20 World Cup titles, and the first to do so at home. While stars from all parts of the unit contributed during the campaign, it is a few of them who stood out, showing consistency and resilience. Not to forget, there were a few players who failed to perform as per expectations as well and it could have costed India the tournament. But that was not the case as the Men in Blue put up an all-round show to bag their 3rd T20 World Cup trophy. Let’s take a look at how the Indian players fared in the marquee tournament below.

Rating Team India stars after T20 World Cup 2026
1. Sanju Samson (9.5/10)
Samson had no idea that he would have a crucial role to play after being snubbed out of the T20 WC opener against USA. He fared rather poorly in the game against Namibia and Zimbabwe, registering scores of 22 and 24. However, it was during the knockout stages and crucial matches where Samson proved his worth. His match-winning knocks of 97*, 89 and 89 against West Indies (in Super 8), England (in the semi-final) and New Zealand (in the final) propelled him to being named the Player of the Series, with 321 runs to his name from 5 innings, averaging 80.25 and boasting of a strike rate of 199.37.

— Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) March 9, 20262. Abhishek Sharma (3/10)
The explosive Indian opener was a complete let down in the T20 WC. After registering three consecutive ducks, Abhishek’s only effective contribution came in the Super 8 tie vs ZIM where he scored 55 runs. While there were murmurs about dropping him for the final, the team management decided to back him and it paid off. Sharma broke free from the shackles of poor form and delivered when it mattered the most with a 52-run knock in the final. However, his inconsistency throughout the tournament has tainted his image as one of India’s most-reliable openers.
3. Ishan Kishan (8/10)
The Jharkhand keeper-batter earned his way back into the T20I setup with consistent performances in domestic cricket. And it paid off. He was extremely consistent for India in the T20 WC. He finished with 317 runs to his name from 9 innings, averaging 35.22 and boasting of a strike rate of 193.29. Kishan provided the perfect stability for India while majorly batting at number 3.
4. Suryakumar Yadav (5/10)
Barring the fact that he led India to their 3rd T20 WC title, SKY’s contributions were the least in this tournament. His only notable knock came against the USA. However, credit must be given where it is deserved and hence Surya shepherded his troop perfectly in the tournament, leading them to creating history.

— ICC (@ICC) March 8, 20265. Tilak Varma (6/10)
Varma had a mixed run in the T20 World Cup 2026. After faltering at number 3 initially, he was demoted in the batting line-up. This turned out to be a boon for him as he was able to bat freely. Overall, he finished with 205 runs from 9 matches. Tilak did manage to get good starts but failed to convert them into high-scoring knocks.
6. Shivam Dube (9.5/10)
Dube was arguably one of the most consistent batters for India in the T20 World Cup 2026, although not so much in terms of bowling. The middle-order batter finished with 235 runs to his name from 8 innings, smashing 15 fours and 17 sixes. He single-handedly bailed India out of tough situations in multiple matches while batting down the order.

— Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) March 9, 20267. Hardik Pandya (9/10)
Pandya can easily be dubbed as the MVP for India in T20I cricket, with his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. He amassed 217 runs with the bat, including a unbeaten half-century. With the ball, he was as effective while playing third fiddle to Bumrah and Arshdeep, excelling while bowling both in the powerplay and in the death overs. He finished the tournament with 9 wickets to his name.

— ICC (@ICC) March 8, 20268. Axar Patel (7/10)
Bapu wasn’t that useful with the bat in T20 World Cup 2026 but it is timely contributions with the ball which was commendable. A 3/27 haul in the final against New Zealand was the standout performance in his campaign. Overall, he finished with 11 wickets to his name.
9. Varun Chakravarthy (6/10)
The Tamil Nadu spinner finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the tournament. However, there was a stellar difference in his performance in the group stage and the Super 8s and the knockouts. He managed to get 9 wickets in the group stage and was quite economical. However, over the course of next 5 matches, he only managed to add 5 more wickets to his tally while he was quite expensive in all those games. Eventually, his economy rate was the reason why he couldn’t finish as the leading wicket taker in T20 WC 2026.
10. Arshdeep Singh (7/10)
India’s best T20I bowler did not enjoy tremendous success in the marquee event. While he did support Bumrah and Pandya well throughout the T20 WC, he looked far from his best and finished the tournament with just 9 wickets to his name.
11. Jasprit Bumrah (10/10)
Bumrah undoubtedly turned out to be India’s best and most lethal weapon in a World Cup as he finished the tournament with 14 wickets to his name at an average of 12.43. He conceded just 174 runs from the 168 balls he bowled. Until the T20 WC final, he was way behind Varun in the list of leading wicket-takers. However, a spell of 4/15 – the most by a pacer in a T20 World Cup final, propelled him to the top of the list. Not to forget, Bumrah struck for India when it mattered the most throughout the tournament.
