Calgary led 9-3 at halftime and extended their lead in the third quarter. Riley Loewen scored early, boosting Calgary’s advantage. The Knighthawks attempted a comeback with a three-goal run to end the third quarter. However, Calgary regained control in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory, and outscoring the Knighthawks 4-1 in the final frame.
Ryan Smith emphasized the importance of hard work as this team tries to dig itself out of a 1-5 stretch. “One of my favorite quotes is that hard work beats talent, and talent is and working hard, and we have all the talent we need in that locker room,” said Smith. “We just have to come together and work our hardest 100% of the game.”
Ryland Rees remained optimistic about the team’s playoff chances. “The goal is still the exact same as from the first training camp,” said Rees. “It’s not impossible. We just we know we got to turn it on and we got to start putting together some wins. And, we know we got the guys to do it. It’s just a matter of doing it instead of saying it.”
With seven games left in the regular season, the Knighthawks are in ninth place at 5-6, trailing the San Diego Seals and Buffalo Bandits by half a game. Rochester will face the Las Vegas team, currently 4-7, in back-to-back games, returning home on Saturday, March 21.
