I’m still trying to piece myself together a little bit today after learning of the passing of Troy Murray. We had a unique relationship. He would always give me an elbow to the ribs when he walked by and smile over his shoulder, making sure it found the mark. If he beat me into the press box for a home game, I would find a small cup of either popcorn or gummy bears at my seat. My spot in the box is the closest to the radio booth, so I would look over and he’d wink at me thru the window. There were other incredibly special moments between us. He was truly one of one.
If you get a chance, listen to the tremendous tribute put together by Peggy Kusinski and Dionne Miller on ESPN 1000 yesterday. They spoke with Eddie Olczyk, Pat Foley, Bob Verdi and Denis Savard. Just be prepared to cry. There were so many other really special tributes on social media yesterday from current and former (still active) Blackhawks, his former teammates, the NHL teams he played for, Hockey Canada, and the University of North Dakota. I’ll just leave you with three, but encourage you to do some wandering around social media.
Heartbreaking to hear the news today on the passing of @muzz19. Always had so much respect for Troy as a former @NHLBlackhawks and even better person. RIP my friend.

Here’s your striking number of the day, but it’s one that shouldn’t come as a huge surprise: the Chicago Blackhawks are now the youngest team in the NHL. And they’re almost a half year younger than the next-youngest team. The Blackhawks also have the least NHL games experience in the league by a significant margin. I share this so when you’re throwing the remote at your television at times during the rest of the season you maybe remember there’s a learning curve taking place in real time.Updated NHL average ages after the trade deadline:1. Chicago – 26.142. Montreal – 26.513. Vancouver – 26.884. Buffalo – 27.435. San Jose – 27.546. Philadelphia – 27.647. St. Louis – 27.648. NY Rangers – 27.689. Nashville – 27.8310. Calgary – 27.9311. Boston – 28.28…
— NHL Rosters (@NHL_Rosters) March 7, 2026 And the roster is going to get a couple more young faces in it tonight. Drew Commesso probably won’t be the starting goalie in Dallas (but tomorrow night at home is probable), but Nick Lardis figures to draw into the lineup so the Blackhawks can skate 12 forward and still sit Sam Lafferty (poor guy). It sounds like Roope Hintz is going to miss some time for Dallas because of an injury he suffered in their last game. Michael Bunting will make his Dallas debut against the Blackhawks tonight. Nathan Behm scored twice and added an assist in a big win last night for Kamloops. His second goal was the game-winner. Behm now has 82 points (36 goals, 46 assists) in 61 games in the WHL this season.Business as usual for Nathan Behm pic.twitter.com/NyPjrTHf7t

— Kamloops Blazers (@blazerhockey) March 8, 2026 In the college ranks, John Mustard had one assist as Providence rolled over UConn to close the books on a magnificent regular season for the Friars. Last night was a huge swing night in Hockey East. Václav Nestrašil had one assist as UMass beat New Hampshire 4-2. With that win, and a series of other teams losing, UMass flies up to the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East Tournament this week!Teams 2,4,5,6 all lost in Hockey East – allowing Massachusetts to swoop in and collect the 2 seed for the Hockey East Tournament. Not to mention, move up to 14 in the NPI.
