Firefighters were forced to rescue nearly two dozen residents at a suburban apartment complex after a partial floor collapse Saturday night.
According to officials with the Morton Grove Fire Department, a support beam in the basement parking garage partially failed on Saturday, causing the floors of the building to drop by several inches.
As a result of that collapse, residents were unable to open the doors of their units, which had jammed shut according to fire chief Dennis Kennedy.
Residents and visitors were forced to leave the building via balconies, with firefighters raising ladders to those balconies to allow individuals to evacuate.
No injuries were reported, and all residents of the building were displaced as inspections commence on the structure.
The building will remain closed until inspectors clear it, according to officials. A warming shelter was put in place for affected residents, and anyone in need of assistance is asked to contact Morton Grove officials.
