ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Some would say it is a little early in the season for severe thunderstorms, and they would be correct. Early March is not our typical time of the year for lightning, gusty winds, and downpours. Those of us in the Rochester area were fortunate that the strongest storms stayed mainly along the Southern Tier of New York State. However, because of the chance of severe storms, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists have a yellow alert in effect. We anticipate the yellow alert will be discontinued for the early evening as the storms move east. The big bonus was the record high temperature with the Rochester Airport reaching 73 degrees.
Tonight look for any showers and thundershowers to become less numerous. It will still be very mild for this time of the year as the temperature falls to near 50 degrees (typically the low is in the mid-20s). Remember that at 2 AM tonight we switch to daylight saving time as we set the clocks ahead one hour. Sunday appears to be breezy and cooler with morning clouds giving way to partial sunshine. The high temperature will be near 50 degrees.
More warmth is expected for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as temperatures will rebound into the 60s again. That kind of weather is more typical for early May. Then the News10NBC forecast shows a return to “weather reality” as we cool to a more seasonable readings in the 40s and 30s by Thursday and Friday.
An early look at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday shows it will be mainly dry, but rather chilly. The temperature will likely be in the 30s.
