Both Daryl Hannah, who dated Kennedy for five years, and Bessette's ex, Michael Bergin, have recently made public statements about the series.

Bergin was asked by TMZ if Kennedy was jealous of his relationship with Bessette. He responded, "How would I know?"
Hannah wrote an op-ed for The New York Times, sharing her displeasure about how she was portrayed in the series' early episodes. She wrote, "A recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette features a character using my name and presents her as me. The choice to portray her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny, and inappropriate was no accident."
