Day 46 of the Chicago Bears offseason. After a busy Day 45, I’m curious to see what the last Friday of the 2025 league year brings in terms of NFL news headlines.
Even though the DJ Moore trade won’t be made officially official until Wednesday, the outgoing Bears receiver said his goodbyes with an Instagram post. And the way he signed off was absolutely perfect:DJ Moore says goodbye via IG … and ends it with the PERFECT sign-off! pic.twitter.com/oW2u4KgdDF

Even though there has been ample discourse about what happened on what turned out to be his final play with Chicago’s football team, you won’t hear me say or write a negative word about Moore regarding his time with this team. That guy suited up every week, played through injuries, and performed at a high level. Plus, he was stellar in the community. In short, Moore was everything you’d want a Bears player to be. I wish him well with the Bills — except when he plays against Chicago later this year. Even then, I’d be OK if Moore went off with a big game if the result was the Bears putting a dub in the win column. A random DJ Moore moment that will live in my head rent-free until the lights go out is the touchdown pass he threw to Caleb Williams in the Bears’ win against the Cincinnati Bengals. I can’t imagine there is a lengthy list of players who have put on a uniform while in Chicago who threw, caught, and ran in a touchdown. That might be an offseason assignment for a slow day during the spring or summer. I bet that list is fun. Mandatory Credit: Katie Stratman-Imagn Images One way to look at the DJ Moore trade to the Bills is by viewing it as a branch of the Bryce Young trade, which continues to be a doozy:THIS IS CRAZY ?so looking back on the Bryce Young trade…Panthers got:QB Bryce YoungBears got:QB Caleb WilliamsOT Darnell WrightCB Tyrique StevensonWR Luther Burden2026 second-round pick (No. 60 overall)
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) March 5, 2026 The Bears really turned the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft into Caleb Williams, Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, Luther Burden III, three years of DJ Moore, a playoff win against the Packers, and a 2026 second-round pick. Well done, Ryan Poles. I’ll say this on behalf of the Bears GM: He knows how to land the plane when it comes to making a trade that is good for his team and for the outgoing player. What that means in the grand scheme of things is unknown, but I bet DJ appreciates Chicago sending him to a place with quarterback stability instead of the great unknown. Dalton Wasserman (Pro Football Focus) explains why the NFL Draft — and not free agency — is the place to look for receiver help:There are useful role players likely to be drafted in the early part of Day 3. Teams should scan the free-agent market for veteran help at the right value, but they shouldn’t overpay due to the talent in this draft class.
I don’t think the Bears will be in the market to draft a receiver high. But I do believe it would be wise for them to add to their depth by unearthing a gem on NFL Draft weekend. Speaking of wide receivers, this is the second time Ian Cunningham has been part of a front office that allowed Darnell Mooney to walk away:The #Falcons are planning to release WR Darnell Mooney, sources say, with Mooney set to count $18.4M against the salary cap.Mooney, still just 28, has averaged better than 13 yards per catch in each of the last three seasons. pic.twitter.com/HwVyFwJ7AJ
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 5, 2026 Things that make you go ‘hmmmm’: Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio shares that Tyler Biadasz’s visit to Chicago with the Bears never happened. That is odd for so many different reasons. It isn’t something I want to (or need to) obsess over. But it is something to keep in mind, especially since this team still needs to find a center to replace the recently retired Drew Dalman.THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
The Minnesota Vikings are listed among the logical landing spots for quarterback Kyler Murray, which annoys me. I don’t want the Vikings having nice things. Instead, I want Minnesota to live in quarterback purgatory. Adding Murray would be a major step above what the team currently has in J.J. McCarthy. And after watching Kevin O’Connell work magic with Sam Darnold, it isn’t unthinkable that he could do the same with Murray. A Detroit Lions team in search of offensive line help is getting a visit from Jedrick Wills. Taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Wills hasn’t seen his career take off in a major way due to injuries. In fact, Wills has played just 13 games since the start of the 2023 season. Bob Harlan, one of the most important executives in Green Bay Packers history, has passed away.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
