The prelims heat sheet is in for day 3, and 26-year-old National Team member Michael Andrew has scratched the men’s 100 fly prelims.
Andrew was seeded 8th in the event with the 51.83 he swam in May of 2024, though he has only raced the event at three meets since then. Andrew’s lifetime best in the event stands at 50.80 from the 2021 Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis, which makes him the 8th fastest American in history in the event.
Andrew has already raced the 50 fly, 50 back, and 100 breast at this meet. He won the 50 fly in 23.10, which was his fastest swim since February of 2024 in the event. He also picked up a silver medal in the 50 back in 25.23, and he qualified 4th for tomorrow’s 100 breaststroke final in 1:00.71, more than two seconds off his American Record time of 58.14.
He is still entered in the 50 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle on Saturday.
Katie Ledecky also scratched an event, the women’s 200 freestyle, where she was the 2nd seed. We knew this was coming, though, because she spoke to SwimSwam about it earlier this week. She will still race the women’s 1500 freestyle in the finals session.
