ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The third annual community Iftar dinner took place at the Edgerton R-Center on Backus Street in Rochester. The event focused on celebrating the spiritual lessons of Ramadan and honoring key members of the city’s Muslim community.
Vice Chair of Barakah Muslim Charity Abu Islam received an award during the dinner. He emphasized the importance of bringing people from diverse backgrounds together.
“A lot of the people over here are from the suburbs and a lot of the people are for the first time,” said Islam. “And bringing them here, telling them how the city life is, what people are going through, and bringing everyone together and breaking our fast together, that is the best and that is the teachings of this world.”
Ramadan will continue through the evening of March 19.
