John Calipari is happy to see that legendary Arkansas basketball head coach Nolan Richardson is finally getting a statue outside Bud Walton Arena.
Richardson led the Razorbacks to a national title in 1994 and was honored at halftime during Arkansas’ win over Texas last night, where he was presented with the news. Following the game, Calipari and players were asked about Richardson’s new statue.
Calipari, while praising coach Richardson, joked that an addendum had been added to his contract that requires him to go clean bird poop off it once a week. Coach Cal, and we don’t exactly know what he means by this, added that he would do it “in a pleasant way.”

“He’s been so good to me since I’ve been here, and I’m going to tell you again, the one thing I said to Hunter (Yurachek), ‘has anybody talked to Coach Richardson to make sure he’s good with (hiring me)?’ and he said yeah… he was in my corner from Day 1.”
Arkansas reached the Sweet 16 in Year 1 under Calipari and looks to make a deeper run in the 2026 tournament. With the way Darius Acuff and Trevon Brazile have played as of late, it’s definitely hard to count the Razorbacks out entering the postseason.
