Yeah, we’re less than 48 hours away from the NHL Trade Deadline, so we’re getting a double dose of NHL news and rumors today.

It appears the ice is breaking on the trade market. Once the Blackhawks traded Connor Murphy to Edmonton, the market appeared to come into better focus for some contenders looking to bolster their blue lines. Let’s jump into some of the latest news and notes from around the NHL.

    Around the NHL

The first big (literally) trade on Wednesday: the Dallas Stars landed defenseman Tyler Myers from the Vancouver Canucks for a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2029. The Canucks are retaining half of Myers’ salary; he has one additional year remaining on his contract.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have acquired a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft from the Dallas Stars in exchange for D Tyler Myers (50% salary retained).DETAILS | t.co/iUD7xp94nO pic.twitter.com/O271bvADhV

    — Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) March 4, 2026 Darren Dreger was the first to report the Buffalo Sabres had a deal in place to acquire defenseman Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues. Dreger reported the deal includes defense prospect Radim Mrtka, the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a first-round pick. Parayko, 32, is signed thru the 2029-30 season with a cap hit of $6.5M. The deal is awaiting Parayko’s approval. Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the Utah Mammoth have a deal in place to acquire defenseman MacKenzie Weegar from the Calgary Flames. Weegar, also 32, is signed thru the 2030-31 season with a cap hit of $6.25M. This deal is pending the approval of Weegar. The return for the Flames is not yet known. I’ll update this when it’s revealed. The Maple Leafs announced veteran defenseman Chris Tanev underwent successful core muscle surgery on Wednesday. He’s done for the year, but is expected to be ready for training camp in September. Meanwhile in Toronto, just hours after Leafs head coach Craig Berube said he wouldn’t have to worry about any roster management issues on Wednesday night… three players are sitting out.

F Scott Laughton, F Bobby McMann and D Oliver Ekman-Larsson will not dress for tonight’s game in New Jersey for roster management purposes.

    — Leafs PR (@LeafsPR) March 4, 2026 The San Jose Sharks signed forward Kiefer Sherwood to a five-year extension that has a $5.75M AAV. The Florida Panthers signed goaltender Louis Domingue on a one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of this season. An interesting read here from ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski that indicates some front offices aren’t thrilled with the ways the new CBA is impacting their ability to be active before the trade deadline.

"It's bush league."NEW: Some NHL teams aren't happy with how the new CBA's expedited salary cap rules (playoff cap, LTIR) are impacting the trade deadline. My story: t.co/lxkC4s6Tgx
