Will DJ Moore still be a member of the Chicago Bears when it begins?

CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones has the latest on DJ Moore trade chatter, which now includes a new team to keep an eye on as a possible landing spot (as well as a reference to the wideout as a possible trade chip in a Maxx Crosby deal):

One Bears player plenty around the league are keeping an eye on is wide receiver D.J. Moore. The former first-round pick is coming off his least productive year of his career. The Patriots could be a landing spot for Moore if the Bears do a deal involving the receiver, or he could be part of a hypothetical package that goes to a needy Las Vegas team in a deal for Crosby.

In case you missed it, the Bears are reportedly a team to watch in the Maxx Crosby trade sweepstakes. And while the Las Vegas Raiders reportedly are looking for a return in a Crosby deal that would be headlined by two first-round picks and a young player, it doesn’t seem like that type of trade offer is on the table right now. Instead, a more likely deal might revolve around one first-round pick and a player. We’ve discussed Moore as a possible trade fit in a Raiders deal before. So it isn’t a surprise to see his name referenced here by yet another NFL insider.

What about the New England Patriots and DJ Moore?

Even though the DJ Moore-Maxx Crosby stuff is tantalizing, mentioning the Patriots as a possible trade partner for the Bears is also eye-opening. The Pats have a nice run game and some useful pieces throughout their offense. But it was clear in the team’s Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks that another pass-catching weapon would have been useful. I hadn’t thought about the Patriots as a team that would go after Moore, but reading it from Jones piques my interest.

Over The Cap has the Patriots being $39,281,396 under the 2026 NFL salary cap of $301.2 million. In other words, that team has enough cap space to fit DJ Moore’s contract with room to spare. Meanwhile, the folks over at Tankathon have New England down for owning 11 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. Of those picks, the Pats have three in the top-100 and two fourth-rounders. I’m not sure what kind of trade value Moore has right now. But if the Bears could clear some cap space *AND* net some much-needed draft capital in the process, then I can definitely see Chicago and New England hooking up on a deal.

With that being said, I’m not sure which way the DJ Moore trade discussions will go. Moore was one of three Bears players reportedly generating trade interest during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. And while Moore has made it clear (on multiple occasions!) he wants to be in Chicago in 2026, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles admitted he has a tough decision to make regarding the receiver’s future with the team.

In the end, we will continue to monitor trade speculation regarding the Bears, DJ Moore, and other situations around the NFL. There is so much happening right now that it can be hard to keep up with everything. But with that in mind, we will do our best to have you covered on all fronts.
