Police responded to a Chicago elementary school Tuesday after a fight broke out during recess, the school’s principal said in a letter.
A letter addressing the incident was sent to parents and guardians of Josephine C. Locke Elementary School, located at 2828 North Oak Park Avenue in Chicago’s Montclare neighborhood.
“Safety is always my top priority, which is why I am writing to notify you of a situation that occurred at our school,” Principal John Fitzpatrick said in the letter. “Earlier today, during recess, there was a physical altercation involving members of our school community.”
Fitzpatrick said the school “immediately intervened to de-escalate the situation and notified the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the CPS Office of Safety and Security for support. CPD responded to our school and took appropriate action. Out of an abundance of caution, notifications were also made to ensure all impacted individuals received additional support, and their families have been notified.”
The school is handing the incident in accordance with Chicago Public Schools policies, Fitzpatrick added.
