Bill Self ejected following Darryn Peterson offensive foul as ASU starts strong vs. Kansas

TEMPE — Kansas head coach Bill Self was ejected late in the first half at Arizona State on Tuesday for back-to-back technical fouls after star guard Darryn Peterson was called for an offensive foul.

Peterson was fighting through ASU guard Bryce Ford away from the ball to earn the offensive foul. The potential top NBA Draft pick had missed all five of his shot attempts at the time of the foul call and finished the half 0 for 7 from the floor.

ASU led the No. 14 Jayhawks 26-16 with 6:07 left in the half following Moe Odum’s three made free throws after Self left the floor.

It was only Self’s second ejection since he took over the Kansas program in 2003, and it came against a coach he’s 1-2 against entering the night in Bobby Hurley. Former NBA head coach Jacque Vaughn stepped in for Self, and he was later assessed his own technical foul with 43.4 seconds left in the half.
