It doesn’t sound like the Chicago Bears are wasting much time trying to unearth a replacement for Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman.
Tyler Linderbaum and Tyler Biadasz have already been reported as centers connected to a Bears team that suddenly needs one. In case you missed it, Chicago’s football team is now in the market for a starting center after news of Dalman’s retirement broke on Tuesday afternoon. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport and The MMQB’s Albert Breer have scoops:

We’ll start with the potential big fish, Tyler Linderbaum. The 25-year-old free-agent-to-be was a first-round pick (25th overall) by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 NFL Draft. In Baltimore, Linderbaum was a four-year starter who missed just two games and made the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons. Pro Football Focus had Linderbaum as the fifth-highest-graded center in 2025 and views him as one of the league’s best run-blockers at his position. Given how important the run game is to the success of Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson’s offense, you don’t have to squint to see the fit.
For what it’s worth, PFF has Tyler Linderbaum as its third-best available free agent going into this offseason. The analytics site projects the University of Iowa product to land a four-year deal that pays him an average of $20 million per year and includes $53 million in guarantees. Meanwhile, The Athletic (which has Linderbaum as the sixth-best projected free agent) forecasts a four-year deal worth $71 million. The juice might be the squeeze to replace one Pro Bowl center with another, even if it is admittedly pricy.

A Pro Bowler with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022, Biadasz has spent the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders snapping the ball to 2024 first-round quarterback Jayden Daniels. Biadasz was PFF’s 12th-highest-graded center in 2025 and seems to have a balanced game. His 71.2 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus checked in at 12th among 39 qualifying centers, while his 67.1 pass-blocking grade was 15th — just behind Drew Dalman’s 67.3 grade.
The Commanders cut ties with Tyler Biadasz last week in a move that created $2.8 million in salary cap space. That isn’t a major bit of cap savings, which leads me to wonder why Washington made this move in the first place. Well, here is an explanation from ESPN’s John Keim (via USA Today’s Commanders Wire):
“The big factor with Biadasz? He was due $8.3M in cash. They can now allocate that money elsewhere in free agency, adding to their desire to be aggressive. Of course, some of that money will go to Biadasz’s replacement. But keep this in mind, if Biadasz had been playing at a higher level, they wouldn’t have made this move.”
I don’t love the insinuation that the Biadasz cut had more to due with performance and less to do with cap savings. Perhaps a change of scenery could be good for the University of Wisconsin product. At a minimum, his name is one we will watch with great interest — and for obvious reasons.
