Dancing with the Stars’ pro Val Chmerkovskiy wound up at a Peoria hospital this week while on a DWTS tour, with a social media video showing the star laying in a hospital bed with the caption “small hiccup.”
“I ended up out here in Peoria,” Chmerkovskiy said in the video, posted from a hospital room Sunday. A day earlier, he had been on stage with the group at the Peoria Civic Center. “I’ve just been having Vertigo for the past couple of days. I had it yesterday, and I was able to get through the show.”
Chmerkovskiy is currently traveling with “Dancing with the Stars Live,” with stops in the Midwest this week. Tuesday, the show is set to head to the Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, with three shows scheduled for the Rosemont Theater Friday and Saturday.
Monday, Chmerkovskiy said, was a day off, and that doctors were running tests.
“I’m just spinning everywhere,” Chmerkovskiy said. “On the bus, when it’s moving. I just woke up and I couldn’t get myself together.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Vertigo is a “sensation that the environment around you is spinning in circles.”
“It can make you feel dizzy and off-balance,” a post on the clinic’s website said. “Vertigo is a symptom of lots of health conditions rather than a disease itself, but it can occur along with other symptoms.”
Health experts say it most commonly occurs when there’s an issue with your inner ear. It can result from a virus, after “tiny calcium crystals in the inner become dislodged.”
Chmerkovskiy commented on the feeling, saying “once that kind of crystal in your equilibrium goes out, it’s really hard to get back in.”
In a comment posted on Chmerkovskiy’s post DWTS Live wrote “we hope you feel better soon.”
At the end of the video, Chmerkovskiy said “he hopes to be back Tuesday” and shared another picture from the hospital bed, saying “blood work done, vitals checked, see you soon.”
