MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. — A 25-year-old woman is facing charges after the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office says she intentionally left a dog without food and water, resulting in the dog’s death.
Shaffiria Dortch was indicted for aggravated cruelty to animals and overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance.
Prosecutors say on Oct. 7, 2025, Dortch locked a Rottweiler in a kennel without food or water which caused the dog to starve to death.
In Dortch’s indictment, it says Dortch “intentionally killed or caused serious physical injury to a companion animal in a manner intended to cause extreme physical pain or done or carried out in an especially depraved or sadistic manner,” according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors say she didn’t show up for a scheduled court appearance on Feb. 26. She is now set to appear later this month.
