Savannah Guthries Mom Nancy Update: Investigators Definitely Closer to Finding a Suspect, Sheriff Says

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than one month after being abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and Sheriff Chris Nanos recently said that investigators are "definitely closer" to finding a suspect.

In an interview that aired on Today on Tuesday, March 3, the Pima County Sheriff shared an update after the 84-year-old's case took a sudden turn. Nancy has been missing since Feb. 1, and both the FBI and the PCSD withdrew multiple agents/officers from Tucson to focus on other aspects of the investigation.

NBC correspondent Liz Kreutz asked Nanos if investigators were any closer to identifying a suspect or suspects.

"I think the investigators are definitely closer," the sheriff replied. "We've got a lot of intel, a lot of leads. But now it's time to just go to work."

Additionally, Nanos spoke about the new Ring camera footage of a car speeding past a home 2.5 miles from Nancy's home.

"What I would tell you is this: We're aware of it, and we're looking into it. Just like any other piece of evidence," he said, also sharing that investigators have not been able to identify the car in the footage.

Nanos added, "We are at that vehicle as well as hundreds of thousands of other vehicles that were out driving that time of day."

Finally, Nanos acknowledged the ongoing public interest in Nancy's case, pointing out that investigators aren't sharing everything they know for a reason.

"There's so much that everybody wants to know, right? But I would be very neglectful, irresponsible as a police law enforcement leader to share that with everybody," he explained. "We have information on this case that we think is going to, hopefully, lead us to solving this case. But it takes time."

On Feb. 1, the PCSD launched its search for Nancy, who was last seen in her Tucson residence on Jan. 31. Since then, investigators released photos and video from surveillance footage of Nancy’s home showing a potential masked suspect. Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, have also sent multiple video messages to the potential captor(s) after receiving several alleged ransom notes. Most recently, Savannah offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to Nancy’s return.

Those with any information about Nancy’s missing case are advised to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
