The Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly traded away their longest-tenured player, dealing Connor Murphy to the Edmonton Oilers.
Multiple reports have confirmed the deal, including from The Athletic’s Chris Johnston and Sportsnet’s Mark Spector.
According to Spector, the Oilers will acquire Murphy in exchange for a second-round pick. The Blackhawks will also retain 50% of Murphy’s cap hit in the trade.

Murphy has spent the last nine seasons with the Blackhawks, arriving via trade with the Arizona Coyotes in 2017. He has appeared in 547 games, with 34 goals and 90 assists.
He’s also a five-time nominee for the King Clancy Award, and has established himself as one of the team’s most reliable defensemen over the years.
This season he is averaging 16:34 of ice time per game, with 55 shots on goal and 13 points in 60 games.
Murphy will earn $4.4 million this season, and will be a free agent at season’s end.
