Texas A&M forward Mackenzie Mgbako has missed almost the entire 2025-26 season due to injury. He hasn’t played since Dec. 21 and appeared in only 7 games this season.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan confirmed that Mgbako will not return to the lineup this spring.
“He’s out for the season,” McMillan confirmed. “He can’t come back. Physically, he just started doing his rehab … He’s doing great … He’s a winner. We could use him this time of year. He knows that. But he’s still with us.
He also commented on his plans for next season as Mgbako still has collegiate eligibility remaining.
“He’s not going to go to the NBA unless he was healthy enough to perform well in workouts where his draft status would be where he wanted it to be,” McMillan added.

— Carter Karels (@CarterKarels) March 2, 2026Mgbako was expected to be a big-time player for the Aggies this season. In his healthy 7-game stint, he averaged 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while also shooting 34% from 3-point range as a 6-foot-8 forward.
Texas A&M got off to a strong start in SEC play without Mgbako, but its NCAA Tournament fate is in question entering this week. The Aggies have lost 6 of their last 8 games and are just 9-7 in SEC play.
