A quartet of local girls basketball teams competed in the second round of the Class 5A state tournament Saturday. Three of them walked away with wins.
Other local squads competed in the 4A/3A Patriot League tournament this past week.

4A girls state basketball, Round 2
No. 4 Windsor 60, No. 29 Ponderosa 32
Windsor is again a top contender in the state tournament, and it made a strong statement in its postseason opener after receiving a first-round bye.
The Wizards wasted no time establishing firm control, leading 23-5 after one quarter. They outscored Ponderosa (10-15) in each of the first three quarters.
Windsor improved to 19-5. It will play host to 13th-seeded Golden (20-4) in the third round at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The winner advances to the quarterfinals Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.
Golden advanced with a tight 57-52 win over No. 20 Durango in the second round Saturday.

Roosevelt’s late-season surge continued after it received a first-round bye.
The Rough Riders shook off a 14-9 first-quarter deficit, taking a 25-20 lead by halftime. Roosevelt led just 39-36 through three quarters before clinching the win with a 19-11 run in the fourth quarter.
Senior Kyla Lin Hollier led the Rough Riders, as she has all season. She had 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting to go with eight rebounds and five steals.
Roosevelt improved to 17-7 overall. This was its ninth consecutive victory. The Rough Riders will face No. 7 Mead (18-6) in the Round of 16 on the road at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The Mavericks advanced with a 66-24 win against No. 26 Northglenn on Saturday.
No. 15 Northridge 50, No. 18 Mullen 43
After receiving a first-round bye, Northridge held firm on its home court to advance to the Round of 16.
The Grizzlies ran their record to 16-8. They now hit the road for a difficult challenge against second-seeded Green Mountain (23-1) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rams dominated No. 31 Grand Junction 64-38 in the second round Saturday.
No. 9 Pueblo East 74, No. 24 Severance 35
Severance reached a rough conclusion to its season, as it fell in a big hole early and could never recover.
Pueblo East led 19-4 after one quarter and 41-17 after two. The Silver Knights scored single digits in three of the four quarters, and they shot 30%, compared to 51% shooting by the high-powered Eagles (21-1). Severance also had 25 turnovers.
Junior Nautia Barber was the Silver Knights’ sole double-digit scorer, producing 13 points along with eight rebounds and two assists.
Severance ended its season with a 10-14 record.

The 4A/3A Patriot League boys and girls tournaments took place this past week, and multiple local squads earned high finishes.
Eaton (18-5) was the runner-up in the boys bracket, falling in the finals Saturday against Strasburg (21-2) at the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Arena.
Windsor Charter (16-7) placed fourth in the boys tournament, while Resurrection Christian (16-7) was fifth, and University (16-7) was sixth.
University (19-4) was third in the girls tournament, picking up a 45-38 win Saturday against Resurrection Christian (16-7) in the third-place game. Eaton (12-11) was sixth, and Platte Valley (12-11) placed eighth.
