The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken strict action against the players following the team’s disappointing campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. According to reports, the PCB decided to fine every player PKR 5 million (50 lakh), holding the squad responsible for the poor performance in the tournament.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in their final Group 2 Super 8 match at Pallekele. Sahibzada Farhan scored a century as Pakistan posted a total of 212-8. To make the semi-finals, they needed to keep Sri Lanka to 147 or below, but the hosts finished on 207-6, ending Pakistan’s hopes of qualification.
According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken strict action after the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup. The board has fined each player PKR 50 lakh.
Notably, the PCB took this decision immediately after Pakistan’s loss to India. The players were informed about the fine right after the match.
Board officials are unhappy with the team’s overall display in the tournament. They stated that players will earn financial benefits only through strong performances.
Officials also told the squad that rewards for good results and penalties for poor results will go hand in hand. The report added that the board believes enough leniency has already been shown.
Pakistan Fail to Reach Semi-Finals in T20 World Cup 2026
Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals during the T20 World Cup 2026. This marked their fourth straight tournament without a last-four appearance, following league-stage exits at the 2023 ODI World Cup, the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan’s match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain in the Super 8 stage. They then lost to England, which left them relying on other results to stay alive in the tournament.
Earlier, Pakistan reached the Super 8s after defeating Namibia, but their overall performance remained inconsistent. They struggled against stronger sides throughout the competition.
Pakistan narrowly avoided defeat against the Netherlands in their opening match and then beat the USA. However, they failed to deliver against India, repeating mistakes seen in their three Asia Cup losses.
PCB Unhappy with Players’ T20 World Cup Performances
The Pakistan Cricket Board is unhappy with the T20 World Cup performances. Players already earn large sums through central contracts and ICC revenue. Under the current system, players receive fixed monthly salaries along with ICC shares.
A-category players earn 4.5 million rupees per month plus 2.07 million rupees from the ICC, although no player was placed in this category for the July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 contracts. B, C, and D category players earn between 750,000 and 3 million rupees per month, along with additional ICC shares.
In the ongoing World Cup, Sahibzada Farhan is the leading run-getter with 383 runs, but senior batters, including Babar Azam, failed to score even 100 runs. Among bowlers, only Usman Tariq impressed with 10 wickets. Fakhar Zaman showed his value with an 84-run knock at a strike rate of 200 against Sri Lanka.
