The Senate unanimously passed Resolution R-06-26, authored by Lexa Filipowicz, a senator for the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences, which declares September 2026 “Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month” and calls for collaboration with University Counseling Services and the Students Tide Against Suicide advisory board to “host events and share resources for students.”
“This will continue the efforts that the Students Tide Against Suicide organization has started just to be spreading awareness and education regarding mental health battles and suicide prevention,” Filipowicz said.
B-02-26, authored by Kate Violet O’Neill, a member of FYC, was also passed. This bill adds a communications director role to the First Year Council’s officer list and assigns the role to manage the council’s public presence, including its Instagram account.
According to the bill, the director will post updates about SGA events and initiatives and track engagement analytics, among other duties. The FYC will elect the director from within its membership by majority vote, and the position will coordinate social media work with the executive vice president’s office and other council directors.
