Mater Dei and Marina earned No. 1 seeds and Sage Hill secured a spot in the Open Division to highlight Orange County’s girls basketball draw for the CIF Southern California Regional.
The regional begins Tuesday and send its champions in six divisions to the CIF State finals at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, March 13-14.
Mater Dei (24-7) and Marina (18-14) received No. 1 seeds in Division I and Division IV, respectively.
The Monarchs lost in the CIF-SS Open Division quarterfinals. For the regional, they will be joined in Division I by No. 4 Fairmont Prep (17-14) and No. 7 JSerra (20-8) among others.
Mater Dei coach Jody Wynn is expected to miss Tuesday’s first-round game against visiting Windward (18-13) after receiving two technical fouls in a loss against Sierra Canyon in the quarterfinals.
Sage Hill (27-5), a semifinalist in the CIF-SS Open Division, plays at Open champion Sierra Canyon (30-2) in the semifinals of a four-team bracket on Saturday, March 7.
Last season, Sage Hill finished as the Division I runner-up at state.
Marina plays host to No. 16 Escondido (23-5) on Tuesday in Division IV. Escondido claimed San Diego’s Division III title and has won 15 consecutive games.
The Vikings won SoCal’s Division V in 2023 and finished as the runner-up at state.
Godinez (16-12) is seeded second in Division IV. El Dorado (19-14) is second in Division III.
