ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local Division III basketball teams are celebrating victories as they secure spots in the NCAA tournaments.
The Geneseo women’s team and the Keuka men’s squad earned their places in the tournament by winning the Empire 8 conference. The Geneseo Knights defeated Houghton 66-52 on Saturday, claiming their second consecutive conference title. Keuka, as the seventh seed, beat Brockport to advance to their first-ever NCAA tournament.
The selection show for both teams is scheduled for Monday, with the men’s at 1 p.m. and the women’s at 2:30 p.m. During the show, both teams will learn their first-round opponents and game times for the round of 64.
At the junior college level, Monroe Community College achieved a sweep in the Western New York Athletic Conference, or Region Three, championships. The men’s team defeated Jamestown CC 80-69, while the women’s team overcame SUNY Niagara 84-76.
The Tribunes will now advance to the North B District Championships, where they will compete for an automatic bid.
