Mr. Anthony Key of the Elmwood Community departed this life at 1 a.m. Saturday morning February 28, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at his son’s Conditt Hollow Lane home. He was pronounced deceased at 1:55 a.m. by Heather Lowe with Gentiva Hospice of Livingston. Mr. Key was 69.
Private graveside services and interment will be in the Kemp Family Cemetery on the Gary and Wanda Granstaff farm in the Friendship Hollow in the Defeated Creek Community.
One of two sons and a daughter of the late Harold Bernard Key who died at the age of 94 on April 22, 2019 and Lois Virginia Wiggleton Key who died at the age of 74 on October 18, 2000, he was born Charles Anthony Key in Carthage on June 10, 1956.
His only brother, Jonathan Gregory Key preceded Anthony in death on May 12, 2003 at the age of 48
Mr. Key was a 1974 graduate of Smith County High School where his major was auto mechanics. He was also in the pep club all four years and his freshman and junior year he was a member of Vocational and Industrial class.
He was a non-denominational Christian.
Mr. Key retired in 2008 from the Jones Brothers Corporation located in Mount Juliet where he was employed for over twenty years.
He operated the crusher for the highway construction company located in Nashville.
Surviving is a daughter, Misty Key Hunter of Lebanon; son, Chuck Key and wife Billie Pooler Key of the Elmwood Community; sister, Wanda Key Granstaff and husband Gary of the Defeated Creek Community; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
